If you heat and/or cool your home with PSE electricity and have an AMI meter, you can join Flex Rewards and get paid to save energy!
You’ll get $25 for signing up and $15 for every year that you stay enrolled. Plus, you'll earn even more money for saving energy on days when electricity usage is forecasted to peak.
What is Flex Rewards?
Flex Rewards is a voluntary program that uses simple actions to smooth out the demand for energy, ensuring reliable access for all.
Ahead of times of peak demand (known as “Flex events”), we will send you notifications asking you to reduce your energy usage. You’ll earn $1 for each kilowatt-hour of electricity you save during the event.
A kilowatt-hour (kWh) is a way to measure how much electricity you are using over time. Examples of activities that use approximately one kilowatt-hour of electricity include:
- 1 dishwasher cycle
- 30 minutes of using a 2,000-Watt oven
- 17 minutes of using a 3,500-Watt air conditioner
Do I qualify for Flex Rewards?
Flex Rewards is available to all PSE residential customers who have an AMI meter and whose home heating and/or cooling is provided by PSE electricity. Customers who heat their home with natural gas and do not cool with PSE electricity do not qualify.

Can I participate in both Flex Smart and Flex Rewards?
No, you can only participate in either Flex Smart or Flex Rewards.
Can I participate in both Time-of-Use and Flex Smart?
If you are currently enrolled in PSE’s Time-of-Use (TOU) with Peak Time Rebate rate plan (Sch. 317), you are not eligible to enroll in Flex Smart unless you first unenroll from the TOU pilot program through your myPSE account. However, customers who are currently enrolled in a standalone TOU rate plan (Sch. 307 or Sch. 327) are eligible to simultaneously enroll in both Flex and TOU.
What is a Flex event and why does it occur?
Our experts can predict periods with heightened demand for electricity based on a range of different criteria, which we call “Flex events.” For example, a Flex event might occur on a day with weather hotter or colder than normal, when we tend to use more energy to heat and cool our homes. With collective action from the community, we can prevent spikes in energy usage that strain the grid and ensure there is enough energy to go around.
How can I save energy during a Flex event?
Minimize appliance use: Delay using large appliances like your clothes dryer and dishwasher until after the Flex event is over.
Use smart lighting: Upgrade to smart lightbulbs and you’ll be able to turn off your lights using a mobile device. Saving energy is easy when you can remotely turn off lights from anywhere—even when you’re not home! Get more energy-saving tips here.

How can I see how much energy I’ve saved/how much money I’ve earned?
You can log into your FlexSaver account to view your cumulative season earnings. At the end of the season (March 31 for winter and Sept. 30. for summer), we’ll send you an email with instructions on how to redeem your reward.
How will I be notified of an upcoming event?
You will be notified via email and/or SMS text messages. To set your notification preferences, email flex@goudounet.com or call 1-888-292-0502. You must opt in to receive at least one type of notification in order to participate.
How does PSE determine how much energy I save during a Flex event?
We calculate your energy savings for each Flex event using a baseline. This baseline is created by averaging the energy consumption of the four highest-usage days among the five weekdays before the event. Your goal is to use less energy during the event than this baseline. We also consider energy usage in the two hours before the event and the hour after the event, and make adjustments based on higher or lower usage during that time (e.g., 3-4 p.m. and 7-8 p.m. for a 5-7 p.m. event).
When could a Flex event occur and how often?
Flex events will only occur during the hours of 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. and will never take place on holidays (see list below) or weekends. Winter events can occur from Nov. 1 to March 31 and starting in 2024, summer events can occur from May 1 to Sept. 30. For Flex Rewards, there will be no more than 20 Flex events per season.
Holidays:
- New Years
- Memorial Day
- Independence Day
- Labor Day
- Thanksgiving
- Christmas
When and how will I receive my rewards?
You will receive your enrollment reward in the form of an e-gift card fulfilled by Tango within 4-6 weeks. Then, at the end of every season, you will also receive payment in the form of an e-gift card for energy saved ($1 per kilowatt-hour) during Flex events.
Where can I find more information about the program?
How is Flex Smart administered and where can I receive support?
Flex Smart is administered on behalf of PSE by AutoGrid, overseeing program implementation, payment processing, and customer support. Enrolled customers can manage their accounts through the FlexSaver portal provided by AutoGrid.
